Acerca de los servicios de YouTube
YouTube was founded in February 2005 by former PayPal employees Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. Conceived as an accessible, web-based platform to address the technical difficulties of sharing video clips online without requiring external media players or specialized codecs, the service officially began with Karim uploading the first test video, Me at the zoo, in April 2005. Built originally using Adobe Flash video playback technology, YouTube provided an embeddable HTML player and simple URL linking structure that allowed individual video files to be easily shared across blogs and early social networking websites.
The platform experienced rapid user expansion that quickly outpaced its original hosting infrastructure, prompting Google to acquire YouTube in November 2006 for approximately $1.65 billion in stock. Under Google's technical and corporate stewardship, the service transitioned to native HTML5 video playback, built out global data caching networks, and established institutional rights management with the deployment of Content ID in 2007 to automate copyright recognition. Longtime Google executive Susan Wojcicki was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2014, guiding the platform through the introduction of premium subscription tiers, live broadcasting tools, and algorithmic discovery engines, before stepping down in 2023 to be succeeded by Neal Mohan.
Today, YouTube functions as a global video-sharing and streaming media network centered on user-generated, episodic, and professional audiovisual content across long-form videos, live broadcasts, and vertical short-form videos via YouTube Shorts. Audience engagement is sustained through subscriber channels, community posts, interactive live chats, and algorithmic recommendation feeds indexed by viewing history and topic affinities. In commercial, educational, and promotional deployments, organizations leverage YouTube Advertising and the YouTube Partner Program to deploy programmatic video ad campaigns, broadcast enterprise live events, host product demonstrations, and monetize content catalogs through ad revenue shares and channel memberships.
