Acerca de los servicios de X
X (originally Twitter) was founded in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey, Biz Stone, Noah Glass, and Evan Williams at the podcasting company Odeo. Dorsey conceived the project during a hackathon as a short-message-service (SMS) dispatch system that would allow individuals to broadcast real-time status updates to small groups of friends. Officially launching to the public in July 2006, the service was engineered around a strict 140-character limit—chosen specifically to fit within mobile carrier SMS protocol constraints—and quickly gained global traction at the 2007 South by Southwest (SXSW) festival as a real-time conversational network.
The platform matured into a primary global distribution network for news, culture, and politics, pioneering community-invented conventions such as the hashtag (#), @mentions, and the retweet. Twitter completed its initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange in November 2013 and expanded its core post length to 280 characters in 2017. A monumental ownership and structural transformation occurred in October 2022, when billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk acquired the company for approximately $44 billion, taking it private. Under Musk’s leadership, the company eliminated its legacy verification system in favor of paid X Premium subscriptions, made significant shifts in content moderation and algorithmic recommendations, and formally rebranded the network as X in July 2023 to reflect a long-term transition toward an all-in-one application.
Today, X functions as a real-time public discourse network and multi-format media hub centered on short-form text posts, long-form articles, photos, livestreaming, and vertical video feeds. Content distribution is driven by an algorithmic For You timeline, chronological Following feeds, trending topic taxonomies, and audio-based discussion rooms known as Spaces. In enterprise, editorial, and promotional workflows, organizations leverage X Ads to execute targeted programmatic campaigns, syndicate breaking company announcements, monitor global market conversations, deliver real-time customer care, and interact with audience feedback through threaded conversations.
